Writing – a new direction

Though I started my career as a director, I now spend more time writing and it is proving both fruitful and immensely enjoyable. As a writer, I write original plays and adaptations for theatre, feature film and TV screenplays, and translations from Spanish to English on commission.

My original theatre writing includes Shylock in New York, Frankenstein in Beijing, Lambs and Mendoza the Jew as well as adaptations of Fuente Ovejuna, The Dragon, and Scenes from a Marriage and translations of Thebes Land, The Rage of Narcissus, When you pass over my tomb, The Bellow of Dusseldorf, and Yerma.

My screenwriting includes a female led action feature film – as well as a new sci-fi idea and a crime drama for TV.

I have translated plays for the Royal Court, Arcola and Pleasance theatres in London.

Current writing projects include

  • Developing Shylock in New York for performance at a major UK theatre
  • A new play for the National Theatre about UK family courts justice system (on attachment)
  • A new translation of Divine Invention by Sergio Blanco to be premiered at Summerhall during Edinburgh Fringe 2024
  • A rewrite of my play Frankenstein in Beijing for a regional UK theatre
  • Developing Mendoza the Jew into a full length play alongside two more play ideas.

I am happy to talk about any of these projects and/or share examples of my writing on request.
