Last year, James’s best friends, Sarah and Emma, asked him for his sperm. This is the tale of what happened next and what happened after that, and what happened after that. A storytelling show about friendship, James’s upbringing as a young Christian, and about always trying to do the right thing but maybe not always getting it right.

Revelations was the third and final play of what was to become our Songs of Friendship Storytelling trilogy… and it was the hardest to make. We struggled to find the right form. We struggled to be true to the story we were telling. And the centre, the core, of the piece was simply heavier and darker than we were ready for. It was also a challenge to work out how to complete the circle. The play had to work on its own for an audience that didn’t know the previous two plays but it also had to complete the trilogy. I now understand why it gets harder and harder for TV writers with every series they write of a show. You have to keep so many more balls up in the air at the same time. To watch James sow the three plays together, to knit them together into a cohesive whole, was a demonstration of his brilliance and has been incredibly inspiring to me as a writer.
