SOME PERSONAL THOUGHTS

Nine characters, each carrying a secret, each carrying an albatross around their necks, meet, fall in love, fall out of love, find solace, and find support. A beautiful ensemble play by Isley Lynn, performed as a series of encounters between two or three characters, Albatross asks whether we deserve a second chance and how we might give others another chance. Exploring the worlds of tattoos, pornography, work and co-habitation, this is a moving, fiercely intelligent people about opening up and letting people in.

I’ve always wanted to work with Isley Lynn. I fell in love with her play Skin a Cat and ever since, I’ve followed her work with great interest. What I knew before we started working together on this – that she’s a remarkable writer – one of my favourite writers currently writing, in fact. What I discovered – that she’s also a wonderful collaborator to have in the room and endlessly brilliant in terms of supporting a director and actors to make interesting choices. All of which meant that this was a great fun drama school show to make. Great actors, great script, and lovely team. It’s often so simple.
