British Theatre Guide
Becci Gemmell and director Daniel Goldman have created one of those monologue performances that end up surprising you when only one person comes onto a bare stage at the end for the curtain call.
Postcards from the Gods
A terrific example of quality new writing enhanced by slick, fluid direction and a flawless sense of timing.
Three Weeks
When F, a stripper with a substance abuse problem, comes across a story written by her younger, more hopeful self, it serves to send her memory into a series of flashbacks of all the defining mornings-after of her life that led her to where she is now. A sharply observed one woman show that explores the sexual and emotional landscape of a broke and lonely 25 year old girl-woman, from the 16 year old she once was to the woman she is now.

I discovered this play by joining a writing group and every week one of the writers would share what they were working on. Penny sent her script around… and I remember reading her play and thinking, wow, this is a work of staggering talent. I called her up as soon as I finished the play and told her how much I loved it and asked if I could direct it.
We cast the wonderful Becci Gemmell, who brought glorious warmth to the role, and basically had a blast. It’s no surprise to me that Penny has gone on to become one of the UK’s most celebrated and important contemporary playwrights. If you don’t know her work, I cannot recommend getting into it enough. She’s a stunning writer.
